An unforgettable party - Return of the Airedale

With the typical english sobriety, the great island celebrate the change of the century with the Milenium show. People from all the world assisted to Bingley. The meeting took place in the beautiful Hotel The Bankfield.

Friday was the first day in which all the guests join together for the welcome. We received folder with the information of the developenent of the activities in this weekend.

On saturday we had a walk along the Aire River. Our spirit went back to 1800’s. A memorable travel in the time tunnel, difficult to be forgotten. At 10.30 began the Inter Club Supermatch Show, in a very nice tent place in the garden of the hotel. The judge was Mrs.Diana Dossier from the USA. All the NATA member clubs compete. 60 dogs. The best of the match was Beacytan Uptown Girl handler by Sanna Rosell (for NATA), Best Puppy in Match was Tiberatta Flame of Glory owner and handler by Ruth Bullard (for NATA). The most prize winning club was The Midland Counties Airedale Terrier Club.

At 3 o´clock Pm the forum took place. Mr Stig Ahlbert (sweden), speak about Sweden’s experience of undocked Airedale Terriers. Mr.Ernet Sharpe (UK) about  Handling and presentation and Juha Smolander (Finland) Search and Rescue. At evening, in the gala dinner we could hear a few words from Councillor Stanley King, Lord Mayor of City of Bradford in whose province lies the birthplace of the Airedale Terrier. A pleasant and amusing talk. We usually think that these people with such an important position are rather ceremonius but in this case, it was quite the opposite: a very plensent person.

Then they gave the prize to the Best Airedale of 1999, the “Emma” cup, given and hand over by the owner of the Ginger Kennel from Italy Mrs Cuca Sommu-Picenardi. They also hand over souvenirs of the Judges, secretaries and organizers. An evening full of emotion and happiness.

A great day began; sunday 25 June. It was 8 o’clock and preparatives could be seen every where. At 9.30 the judgin began in charge of the famous judge Mrs Pamela Cross Stern from England. I saw very nice dogs from the most famous kennel in England. Dogs from Jokyl, Saredon, Stargus, Branded, Berrodale, Tintara, Junaken, Shadlian, Jonvias, Bambusa, Matrasen, Beacytan, Nedella, Jaideld, Glentops, Karudon, Doraemi, Cibrenin, Accedele, Florac and surely some other I cannot remember.

The best Puppy of the show was Brand & Rawlinsons Branded Just So, Reserve Best in Show, Best bitch  and CCs Swannacks Cirbrenin Bonaroba and the Best in Show and best dog and CCs was Ch. Jokyl Just as Smart.

A party that we would never forget. Our grandchildren and great grandchildren would be able to see in the next Milenium show. We were the chosen this time. As Mrs.Renee Moule (secretary of NATA) says”The next time is 2028”. With a weheel chair or a walking stick I hope seeing you again, to celebrate together the 100 years of the National Airedale Terrier Assosiation.
